Best films on Amazon Prime Video UK: The 10 best movies on Amazon Prime Video

[ad_1]

Amazon Prime has many benefits, but if you love watching films, then you’ll love Prime Video because it instantly puts hundreds of movies at your fingertips. With so many to choose from, however, it can be daunting deciding which film you want to watch next.

That’s why we’ve decided to tackle the oh-so-arduous task of scouring through the best of what Amazon Prime’s films have to offer to find the best movies that you can watch right now on Amazon Prime. Best of all, you can watch all of these movies completely free, so long as you have an Amazon Prime subscription.

If you haven’t used Prime Video before, it’s worth noting that Amazon works differently to Netflix. Your Netflix subscription lets you watch everything on the website. While Prime Video has a huge library of free-to-watch content, you can also buy or rent newer titles.

Like Netflix, you can also download most Prime Video content to watch offline on your PC or mobile device. This is especially handy if you travel a lot and don’t want to eat into your valuable mobile data, or be pestered by the annoying buffering signs due to patchy network. It’s worth keeping this in mind if you’re going on holiday anytime soon.

While Netflix may have more content overall, Amazon Prime is fast catching up. As you can see, most of the films we’ve featured below aren’t available on Netflix, so Amazon Prime is your best bet. If you’re wondering what film to watch or download next using your Amazon Prime subscription, read on where you’ll find a mix of classics, cult hits and modern popcorn flicks.

The best films on Amazon Prime UK

1) Creed

After the release of the sixth film in the mid-2000’s, many thought there were no more stories to tell in the Rocky universe. With the introduction of Adonis Creed, however (played brilliantly by Micheal B Jordan), the Rocky franchise was reinvigorated with another intense tale of adversity, love and a healthy amount of training montages. With Rocky agreeing to train the son of his former best friend and rival, Apollo Creed, fans both old and new can enjoy this exciting and emotionally moving film.

2) Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

What’s left to say about this movie that hasn’t already been said? A modern classic, this fantasy epic had character, action and lore in equal measure, one never overshadowing the other. In adapting the books by J. R. R. Tolkien, director Peter Jackson managed to capture the world’s imagination in a battle of good versus evil. The forces of man facing the tyranny of Sauron and his horde of orcs. It all started, though, with a simple fellowship of man, elves, dwarves and hobbits. Regardless of whether you’ve seen it before or have yet to watch it, the first Lord of the Rings movie is always worth a watch. And if you’re wondering, yes, the other two films in the trilogy are also available for free on Prime Video.

3) The Death of Stalin

What sounds like a serious story of the death of Stalin and the aftermath of his demise is in fact a scathingly-funny and satirical send-off of the man and his closest advisors. After Stalin’s death, an immediate power struggle to replace him begins and the hilarity that ensues is performed brilliantly by the film’s incredible cast. If you’re looking for a comedy with an absurdist, dry and witty sense of humour, then The Death of Stalin is what you’re looking for.

4) Room

While not an easy watch, Room offers an equally beautiful and harrowing tale of a mother and son trapped together in an enclosed room, as they’re forced to endure the torment of their captor. Having lived in the room his entire life, the son has never seen the outside world and only knows the comfort and support that his mother provides for him. Trapped in a horrible situation, the mother and son try and find whatever solace they can as they live out their days together trapped in a small, claustrophobic den.

5) The Shawshank Redemption

I feel like most “must watch” movie lists have this film on them, right? It’s understandable, though. Often touted as one of the best movies ever made, The Shawshank Redemption follows the lives of Andy Dufresne and Ellis Redding as they both serve prison sentences at the Shawshank State Penitentiary. The film manages to use this simple concept as a chance to explore themes of forgiveness, redemption and religion. With great performances by Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins to boot, The Shawshank Redemption is a film riddled with subtext and hidden meanings just waiting to be picked apart by fans new and old.

6) Shaun of the Dead

If you’re a fan of zombie flicks who also loves great comedy, then you’ve probably already watched Shaun of the Dead. Starring the comedic duo of Sean Pegg and Nick Frost and directed by Edgar Wright, this is the sort of creative team-up that was made to be. With a distinctly British and eccentric sense of humour, Shaun of the Dead sees the titular Shaun and friends trying to survive a sudden zombie outbreak in the middle of London. Filled with laughs, zombies and a surprising amount of heart, this movie is essential viewing.

7) Four Lions

Focusing on the exploits of a small group of jihadi terrorists trying to commit their first terrorist act, you wouldn’t think this film is actually a laugh-out-loud satirical comedy. With an extremely dark sense of humour, the movie makes sure that nothing ever goes right for these would-be terrorists, with their plans constantly spiralling out of control and things only getting worse from there. While not for the faint of heart, Four Lions is a comedy you won’t soon forget.

8) Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol

The Mission Impossible films only seem to get better with each new entry and the release of Ghost Protocol was no exception. There are very few movies that can match the set pieces and spectacle of the Mission Impossible franchise, which is because the bar that Tom Cruise and co always set for themselves is ridiculously high. From fighting spies, to scaling the tallest building in the world, and a fair bit of running (so much running), this movie has it all. If you’re looking for an entertaining film, you’d struggle to find something better than Ghost Protocol.

9) John Wick Chapter 2

While this film may be a sequel, it’s still fairly accessible for people who may not have watched the original (which you should also see, if you haven’t already). Starring Keanu Reeves as the titular man himself, John Wick 2 is what happens when a team of dedicated and passionate artists work together to create some of the best action movies in modern cinema. Well choreographed and incredibly entertaining, the John Wick movies represent action movies at their finest and then some.

10) Drive

An impressively stylised movie dripping with character, atmosphere and a terrific soundtrack, Drive follows the everyday life of a Hollywood stunt driver who also acts as a wheelman for criminal heists in his spare time. When a heist goes wrong and he gets the blame, leading to a price on his head, this emotionally-stunted man struggles to care. That is, until he discovers something that gives meaning to his life, something worth cherishing. To say more would spoil the film, but, suffice it to say, the movie is a dark, stylish and engrossing experience that’s definitely worth a watch.

How to subscribe to Amazon Prime?

Interested in watching these movies but don’t have an Amazon Prime account? We’ll help you with that. Amazon Prime has four options, all of which have a 30-day trial, so you have enough time to see which plan works best for you.
After making your selection, you’ll need to create an account (or login with your Amazon account) and pay for the service using a UK credit or debit card. Regardless of which option you choose, you won’t be charged a penny until after your 30 days.

The first option is Prime Video, which costs £5.99 per month and only lets you access Prime Video content, including all the aforementioned movies, on all your devices.

While this may sound like an enticing option, you’re better off paying for Amazon Prime (at £7.99) because for an extra £2 a month, you get unlimited one-day delivery on most items, exclusive deals and discounts, access to Prime Music and more.

The third option is a cost reduction when you subscribe to Amazon Prime for a year upfront. This will cost you £79, which is equivalent to paying £6.58 per month. This further reduces to £39 per year but only if you’re a University student.

Apart from downloading titles to watch offline, you can also stream Prime Video from multiple devices. These include FireTV and Smart TVs, tablets, smartphones, streaming media players and game consoles. Using a Chromecast, you can also cast movies from Prime Video, using an Android phone, PC or Mac. Unfortunately, though, you can’t cast from an iPhone or iPad.

Finally, depending on where you are or where you live, access to certain movies may be different. Due to movie licenses and distribution, a movie that’s available in the UK may not be available in a different country and vice versa. Just something to take into consideration.

If you’re planning a trip abroad and want to watch videos using Prime Video UK, it’s likely you won’t be able to unless you’ve already downloaded the move to your device beforehand.
